One-Way Door Fitting in Tugun is how most possums are moved out of a roof. The door is a short mesh tunnel with a hinged flap at the end, secured over the main gap the possum uses. The possum leaves after dark to feed, pushes the flap open, steps out, and the flap drops shut behind it. From the outside, it cannot open the flap to get back in.
For the door to work, it needs to be the only way out. The crew we book first finds and seals the other, smaller gaps around the roof. They look through the roof space for any young, so none are left behind. Then the door is fitted firmly over the main entry, with the flap angled so the possum can find it easily in the dark.

Most possums leave within one to three nights. You will notice the roof go quiet, and some people sprinkle flour on the roof edge near the door to see tracks heading out. Leaving outside lights off near the door for those nights helps. Once the roof has been quiet, the crew comes back to take the door away and close the gap with mesh or flashing.
